At 40 mph on human power, this would be ideal means of commuting to work. Faster than the 15 mph average speed traffic. Can help reduce risk of diabetes and heart diseases, while commuting to work faster than today's transportation. No bills to pay and should be less expensive to build multiple rails than the current freeways.

I spent 6 months in China, riding a Giant 1 speed bike. It was amazing. I don't consider myself a bike rider, but there, with everything fairly close together, auto congestion at an intolerable rate (in cities) and - best of all - dedicated bike lanes, bike riding was wonderful. You could get around faster than a car, and park near to your destination. When I got back to the USA (Bay Area) I went shopping for a good bike... and nearly got creamed on my test ride.. so discouraging. If cities would have decent bike lane systems, I would get an Ebike in a second.

Perhaps it might be cheaper to build multiple bike rails over existing road than expand the road to include bike lanes.
