It only takes 50 cycles to drop down to 50% of battery capacity?

That sucks...

but if it starts at 3x energy density and lose 50% after 50 cycles then you would still have 1.5x over Lithium battery.

The question then becomes does this degradation continue or reach some asymptotic value and if so hopefully this is still greater than 1x of Li battery.

There are about 52.5 weeks in a typical year. Assume the decline is linear. And lets say you ONLY fully charge it at least once a week from 20%. How many usable years would be left on a pack that was probably made smaller than a typical lithium based EV? Lets say half the size of the Leaf's, to save the consumer money.

Now, just how well does this battery also fare with constant regenerative charging / discharging of incomplete cycles?

Two years, or potentially far less, for a useable pack with highly reduced range, seems pretty sucky to me. How much will the replacements / refurbs cost? Battery companies will love this, but I don't think consumers will, or the run up of the cost of aluminum if it catches on.

If cost and duration aren't terribly critical to the end user, then customers like the Military would certainly appreciate the portable energy density...

This is taking one of the mass consumer's greatest fears about EV's and making it worse. Personally I'd rather have a battery that lasts longer and has more resiliency but store's less energy than the reverse. Though this is still a good sign. If they can figure out what causes the internal breakdown and come up with solutions to prevent it from happening then we are really getting somewhere.

I wonder if it comes in "Kilowatt Red"?

I like the idea of coupling solar panels with their own storage capacity...

Default Tiny little things...

These appear to be very tiny, solid-state lithium based (3.8V) batteries meant to be soldered to circuit boards like other surface mount parts for memory backup etc. Very small, low power, but allegedly long-lived.

Like RAM Chips, they can be ganged onto a single PCB, then stacked.
