Schwarzenegger let it slip. Press conference at 5pm PST. This could shake up the EV market.

How is it that Tesla can build a mainstream car with only a few investments from Toyota and the US Gummint? Oh yeah- they already had money coming in from building a niche car. Just think how much better they could have done with some real Detroit Experts running the show.

My next car may be the Model S- it looks like the best option now that the PreggoTera has morphed into such a pig.

Agreed, RainCaster. And I've seen a Model S proto in person, back at the Detroit Auto Show. It's a very attractive vehicle. A lot more greenhouse than I expected from the pictures (which I like).

The S is beautiful...just more car than I need or want from a commuter...But it could be a "wife" car in a few years.

Gavin

but i agree...tesla proved they could make and sell an EV...an important step...then came more mainstream...after that comes cheaper mainstream...aptera could have, should have done the same with the pp6.5...make it, prove you can make an EV and sell it...then make version 2 or version 4 door...but sigh i am jack's broken record.

Actually I think it has more to do with the fact that Tesla has raised about a hundred million more in VC than Aptera has. This is befor the Toyota deal and the gummint mooooola.

I will grant that delivering product in limited production certainly helped raise capital. But you also have to remember that about half of that money came from one person.

Right now the S is the front runner as a replacement for my wife's LS430. Sadly, that car has only 85K miles on it. Given our fantastic reliability record with Toyotas, that car could last another 15 years. By that time, BEVs will be the norm, and Petro-Powered Detroit will be the dinosaur.

That's my hope.
