Calif. firm joins electric ranks

A futuristic electric car with three wheels called the Aptera 2e is supposed to start production in October. Aptera said the car it describes as a two-seat commuter vehicle will get a driving range of more than 100 miles per charge, go from zero to 60 m.p.h. in under 10 seconds and can go 90 m.p.h. The Vista, Calif., company is one of several start-ups hoping to sell electric cars. It will be sold only in California initially with plans to sell elsewhere in the United States by late 2010. Aptera gave a wide range for the price -- $25,000 to $45,000.

Not much new info, but I was supprised to see even this much info in the Freep. I grew up in Motown, this amounts to treason, to mention smething like this. Even this briefly. As a kid Toyotas would routienly get their lights smashed out, you just did not talk about them, much less drive one.

Well . . . they've hired a few Motown refugees. Perhaps they realize that they really need to look around and consider all options. If the Aptera gets rolling, perhaps they might think about manufacturing in Michigan . . . there is a lot of idle auto manufacturing equipment and skilled workers available. And it is a hell of a lot cheaper in Michigan than California.
