"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Congressional Republicans vowed on Thursday to make a major push for more U.S. oil and gas drilling and in the process force Democrats to cast difficult votes at a time of skyrocketing gasoline prices...."

In a way, I don't like this to pass. I like the way various technologies are developing right now. Especially with the revolution of Battery electric vehicles like the Aptera. One advantage of having the price of oil sky high is that it stirs up innovation, and the US could be a leader again in alternative fuels and clean technology, to stir up our economy once again. The next wave after the internet is meeting the challenges of the impending strong demand for energy. The only side effect, if we continue in the current path is a cleaner atmosphere for mankind.

If we let our country drill for oil again, yes, we could burn cheaper gas with wanton abandon in our big muscle inefficient roaring cars, and ever more pollute our atmosphere.

The use of oil must end or be reduced as much as possible.

Even if we continue to spoil the beauty of our land with oil drilling equipment and to pollute our air and water with soot and CO2. Is there any provision to prevent the oil drillers domestically from selling that oil in the Asian markets at a higher price?

Does America become the Saudi Arabia of North America?
With the oil companies holding all the wealth and the average person still paying top dollar for fuel.

I for one believe the oil industry has had a chance to act in the best intrest of this country and they chose obsene profits over the people. This goes for major Auto companys as well.

I agree completely - we have to experience this pain of gas prices in order to push us into developing new technology and assuming world leadership again. A return to cheap gas will see people quickly returning to their head-in-the-sand near-sighted ways as we continue our slow decline into a militarily-powerful nation with a 3rd world economic demographic. The only way to survive is constant evolution and the good thing about the oil prices is that it is forcing us to do so. I'm strangely optimistic about it.

I just wish Aptera was available today, What better than a 300MPG car on the road and setting an example for all to see.

And of course, what better to go with Aptera than our locally produced renewable gasoline?

Disclosure: I inherited oil and gas lease mineral rights from my grandfather in Oklahoma. I get income from them, and it is those leases that will pay for my Aptera. I am torn about pumping oil and gas from wells. I'm sure we will need the products for some time to come, and yet oppose the drilling in "sensitive" areas like ANWR, and coastal zones in California and other states. Problems with where the oil goes, its ownership, and the profits generated are tough to get a handle on for me. I'm generally in favor of drastically lowering demand if at all possible. It is one of those areas I just need to think about more and get more information on to form a coherent opinion. Jim

Javan: Don't feel bad about it. Oil is a fungible commodity. You need to attack the demand side, and anything you can do to advance the tech, such as supporting companies like Aptera in any way possible, is doing just that.
